United Way taking applications for special needs fund

BOYNTON BEACH – United Way of Palm Beach County is now accepting applications for the Special Needs Equipment Fund for Palm Beach County. The fund, previously managed by Children’s Services Council, provides families of children with special needs with essential equipment not available from any other source.

Some common equipment provided under the fund includes car seats, strollers and bath seats. The requested equipment should specifically increase or enhance mobility, communication (speech or hearing), vision, or medical equipment.

There are certain eligibility requirements that must be met: children must be between the ages of 3 and 18 years old; funds cannot provide ongoing or indefinite service or emergency funds; and families must demonstrate they are not able to purchase the equipment themselves or obtain it through other means.

In addition, all requests must be made by a nonprofit or governmental agency. Families not currently receiving services through an agency, will be connected to a sponsor agency to assist them in the application process.

Complete guidelines and applications are available on United Way’s Web site. Visit www.unitedwaypbc.org and look under “Funding Forms.”

Completed applications must be received at United Way of Palm Beach County’s office by the first of every month by 5 p.m. For additional information, please visit United Way’s Web site or contact Samantha Corrington at (561) 375-6659 or samanthacorrington@unitedwaypbc.org
