DELRAY BEACH — It’s back to the budgetary drawing board for Delray Beach. Delray Beach city commissioners Tuesday evening killed a proposed fire service fee needed to fill a $3.2 million hole in the municipal budget. DELRAY BEACH — The Dow had its highest finish in nearly four years. The Nasdaq composite index had its highest finish in more than a decade. It was that kind of day on Wall Street, thanks largely to one of the best jobs report since before the recession.
DELRAY BEACH — After moving substantially higher a week ago, mortgage rates this week did what they’ve done most of 2012 — set yet another record low. Freddie Mac’s Primary Mortgage Market Survey found the 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaging 3.87 percent with 0.8 point, down from 3.87 percent a week ago.
DELRAY BEACH — Consumer confidence surged in Florida but fell back nationally in January, according to separate reports released Tuesday. The University of Florida’s consumer confidence index rose 7 points to 77, as perceptions of the U.S. economy over the next year rose by 14 points, while expectations of the economy over the next five years rose by 10 points.
DELRAY BEACH — Stocks Tuesday continued their recent pattern of minimal gains and minimal losses, this time posting minimal losses. The Dow fell 20.81 points, or 0.16 percent, to 12,632.91; the Nasdaq composite index gained 1.90 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,813.84; the S&P 500 fell 0.61 point, or 0.05 percent, to 1,312.40.
BOCA RATON — Specialty finance company Imperial Holdings Inc. of Boca Raton said Monday that its president and chief operating officer, who is the target of an FBI investigation, has agreed to take a four-month leave of absence.

The Dow fell 6.74 points, or 0.05 percent, to 12,653.72; the Nasdaq composite fell 4.61 percent, or 0.16 percent, to 2,811.94; the S&P 500 fell 3.32 points, or 0.25 percent, to 1,313.01.
