American Orchid Society to hold fundraiser

DELRAY BEACH — The American Orchid Society’s last Wine & Jazz in the Gardens set for Thursday evening, will double as a fundraiser, with the goal of keeping the gardens open to the public.

The event will be held at the American Orchid Society 16700 AOS Lane, on Thursday, April 16th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

Eddie Higgins and Eric Allison from the Gold Coast Jazz Society will perform, hors d'oeuvres courtesy of Hugo's Gourmet Catering and wine courtesy of Southern Wine & Spirits will be served.

A silent auction will feature items including beautiful orchid arrangements, orchid themed photography, china and books.

"As with many other non-profits, the AOS has been hit hard by the economy, resulting in a decrease in membership and donations," said Valerie Smith, director of special events and community relations at AOS. "This has forced our board to choose to close the beautiful botanical garden.

“We are looking to this event to help keep this slice of green open in South Palm Beach County. It is filled with rare flowering trees, plants and exotic orchids. Children love to visit and look at the butterflies and tropical fish in our ponds. They are amazed to see bananas growing on trees and to experience a rain forest in our Orchid Display House."

Tickets for the Wine & Jazz in the Gardens event are $20 for AOS members and $25 for non-members. Tickets may  be bought in advance in the AOS gift store or by calling Susan Wayman at (561) 404-2031. Tickets will also be sold the night of the event.

For more information, please call 561-404-2000 or visit the AOS website.
