United Way campaign on target so far
BOYNTON BEACH — United Way of Palm Beach County’s Campaign Chairman, Donn Colee announced today the organization’s fund-raising campaign has brought in $1.74 million, or 12.6 percent of its $13.8 million goal. This year's campaign is about five percent ahead of last year’s effort at this point. The work place portion of the campaign is a month into its efforts and runs through mid December. The major gifts and mail campaigns are starting now, and run through the first quarter of 2010.
United Way funds 62 programs at 45 local agencies. The agencies that it serves are experiencing an 84 percent increase demand for services, with 63 percent of them reporting that they are unable to meet the increased demand.
"These challenging economic times require extraordinary efforts on the part of all partners and friends of United Way," Colee said. “Many of us know of a friend, co-worker, or family member who has needed the services provided by a United Way agency. We need everyone to help by giving at their workplace, responding to our mail campaign, or by going online to make a donation.
“Our campaign thermometer has to hit 100 percent,” said Colee. “When it does, our partner agencies will be able to help more of our residents in need.”
More than 300 local companies conduct workplace campaigns, giving their employees the opportunity to support their community through United Way. Companies currently running their campaigns include FPL, Pratt & Whitney, the School District of Palm Beach County, Publix Super Markets, Inc., Palm Beach County, Macy’s, and Bank of America.
Any company interested in conducting a workplace campaign or making a corporate gift, is asked to call Larry Miller, vice president of resource development, at (561) 375-6600.
