Delray Beach turns green for St. Patrick's Day celebration

DELRAY BEACH— Organizers billed it as a St. Patrick’s Day celebration like no other in South Florida, and the biggest charity parade of its kind in the entire state.. It’s certainly hard to imagine anything bigger than the parade and party Delray Beach threw Saturday in the downtown.

Thousands swarmed Atlantic Avenue and environs, turning the downtown into a sea of green, to watch bands, fire departments from Palm Beach and Broward counties and others in parade. It was the 42nd annual Delray parade, and organizers paid tribute to its founder, Maury Power, who, as legend has it, began the tradition singlehandedly 41 years ago.

As far as you could see down Atlantic Avenue, there was green.

Can there be a St. Patrick's Day parade without pipe and drum bands?
