Former Certified Services CEO pleads to tax charge

By Palm Beach Business.com

FORT LAUDERDALE — The former CEO of a Fort Lauderdale-based employer services company has been sentenced to five years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to pay payroll taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

Danny L. Pixler, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, was CEO of Certified Services Inc., a company that handled employer functions, including payroll services and getting workers comp insurance, for other businesses. The company would handle payroll taxes — both the employees’ and employers’ share — from the client companies.

Certified, under Pixler, routinely failed to pay the taxes to the IRS, and the client companies racked up more than $31.1 million in back taxes.

Federal  Judge John G. Heyburn II, in Louisville, Ky, sentenced Pixler to 60 months in prison, to run concurrently with a previous conviction for mail and wire fraud.
