Broward woman gets prison for money cleansing scheme

By Palm Beach Business.com

FORT LAUDERDALE — A Broward woman has received 15 months in prison for her part in a fraudulent money “cleansing” scheme.

Federal Judge William P. Dimitrouleas sentenced Olivia Evans, 22, formerly of Texas, to 15 months in prison, plus three years of supervised release. Evans also must pay restitution.

According to court records, Evans and two others told victims to send them money that would be cleansed of evil spirits. Victims were assured their money would be returned in exchange for a small service fee, but the three kept the money instead. They even convinced victims to send them Rolex watches again with the promise they’d be returned. Authorities recovered two Rolexes.

Two co-defendants were sentenced late last year:  Pollie Evans received to 41 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, while Bridgette Evans received 37 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Both women also must pay restitution.

All three pleaded guilty to the charge.
