Parkland man Joachin gets prison for mortgage fraud

MIAMI — A Parkland man will spend the next 41 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy and fraud charges in connection with a million-dollar mortgage fraud ring that operated primarily in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Anson Joachin, 39, of Parkland, also must serve three years of supervised release and pay nearly $2.4 million in restitution after being sentenced Friday by Federal Judge Ursula Ungaro. Four other members of the ring already have been been sentenced.
According to court records and testimony, Joachin and the others fraudulently bought and sold houses in Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, Cape Coral, and Royal Palm Beach using straw buyers who obtained mortgages based on fraudulent loan applications. Joachin orchestrated the scheme, which netted nearly $2.4 million in loans.
The other defendants, including John Fisher, a 35-year-old licensed mortgage broker in Jupiter, Tracey Balli of Pembroke Pines and Justina Bryan of Hollywood, both loan processors, joined the scheme and helped recruit the straw buyers, including including Delano McLennon, 33, of North Lauderdale, to join the scheme.
All four have received prison terms or probation and have been ordered to pay restitution to the victim banks.
