Economy added 80,000 jobs in June

DELRAY BEACH — The economy added 80,000 jobs in June, while the unemployment rate held steady at 8.2 percent, the Labor Department reported Friday.

Economists expected payrolls to increase by 100,000.

Sectors adding jobs included professional and business services,up 47,000 in June, with temporary help services accounting for 25,000; manufacturing added 11,000 jobs, including 7,000 in motor vehicles and parts and 5,000 in fabricated metal parts.

Health care added 13,000 jobs, while wholesale trade added 9,000. Other sectors were essentially flat.

The total number of unemployment was essentially unchanged at 12.7 million.

The Labor Department upwardly revised the number of jobs added in May to 77,000 from the previously reported 68,000.
