Miami lawyer charged in Wellington fraud scheme

WEST PALM BEACH — Federal authorities have charged a Miami lawyer with conspiracy to commit fraud in connection with a two luxury homes in Wellington.
Kimberly S. Daise, 48, who operated a title agency in Hollywood, faces a maximum of 30 years in prison for her role in the scheme, which took two banks for a total of $3.2 million in fraudulent loans on two homes in the Versailles development in Wellington.
According to court documents, Daise prepared two sets of loan documents, one with the actual price of the home sale, the other substantially inflated. The first set went to the seller; the second to EverBank and First Franklin Bank to mislead the banks into making bigger loans.
As a result, Everbank cut a check for $1.575 million; First Franklin, a check for $1.168 million. Proceeds of both checks when to Daise’s title agency.
Daise and her co-conspirators made payments on the loans for a short time but ultimately defaulted.
