West Palm Beach man pleads guilty to wire fraud
By Palm Beach Business.com
WEST PALM BEACH — A former West Palm Beach resident and producer of infomercials has pleaded guilty to wire fraud in connection with a scam that took investors for $1.9 million.
According to federal prosecutors Keith Allen Mills, 53, lied to prospective investors about the financial condition of his business, Business Vision Network. He portrayed the firm as a thriving business with $10 million in revenue.
Mills told investors that Business Vision was a successful producer of infomercials and had bought a large number of electric scooters that it intended to sell through infomercials that the company itself would produce. Mills also told investors that customers, mainly elderly with health conditions, would be able to buy the scooters through Medicare at little or no cost to themselves.
Unfortunately for the 90 or so investors who put a total of $1.9 million into Business Vision Networks, none of it was true. Their money was to go to fund business operations of the company; instead, Mills and others, according to prosecutors, pocketed the money for their own use.
Mills is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 2 in federal district court.
