WEST PALM BEACH — A Palm Beach County tax preparer has received six months in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of willfully filing false personal income tax returns.
Federal Judge Kenneth A. Marra also sentenced Julio Malqui one year of supervised release. Malqui has paid $77,000 in restitution to the IRS and must submit to an audit and pay any taxes and penalties that he might owe for 2004-06.
According to court documents, Malqui owned and operated a tax preparation and bookkeeping business known as Malqui Tax, with several locations in Palm Beach County. He charged clients between $80 and $800 for his services.
Malqui admitted in court to filing false personal tax returns with the IRS that substantially understated his income from the tax preparation business.
