Hospice by the Sea gets grant to upgrade electronic records

By Palm Beach Business.com

BOCA RATON — Hospice by the Sea has received a $30,000 grant from Health Foundation of South Florida to implement the next phase of a state-of-the-art electronic medical record system.

“The goal of technology grants is to strengthen an organization capacity to deliver enhanced patient health services through building their infrastructure,” foundation CEO Steven Marcus said. “We are proud to support and advance the important work being done by Hospice by the Sea.”

The funds will be used to help supply hand-held voice and data devices to certified nursing assistants, who usually have the most frequent and personal contact with patients and their families. That gives CNAs an opportunity to identify changes in the patient’s condition, and the new EMR equipment will improve communications between the CNAs with other hospice team members.

More than 90 percent of Hospice by the Sea patients receives care in their homes, making communications essential to providing the quality care.

“Hospice by the Sea is committed to excellence.  This EMR effort allows us to continue to enhance communication between the clinical teams. We are grateful for Health Foundation of South Florida’s continued support,” Hospice CEO Paula J. Alderson said.
