Hamlet's 'Night on the Strip' raises $30,000 for 'the cure'

Event co-chairs Cathy Weil, Sandy Tobias, Debbie Kaiser, Lois Martin.

DELRAY BEACH —The Hamlet Country Club recently held a “Night on the Strip” to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, raising $30,000 for the cause.  The evening featured a black jack tournament, a luxury silent auction, and a jewelry “Bling” sale.

More than 165 members and guests attended the event. Prior to this culmination event, members of the Club donated items to sell at Delray’s gigantic Black Friday Flea Market held on November 27, 2009 at Old School Square. Nearly $3,000 was earned that day.

According to Lois Martin, event co-chair, Hamlet Member and breast cancer survivor, “The Hamlet has a long and generous history of service and charitable activities.  Over the past eight years at the Hamlet, we have raised $333,000 for Komen for the Cure that enabled research, education programming and life saving treatments and mammograms for those who could not afford it.”

Debbie Kaiser, one of the co-chairs states, “Breast cancer affects 1 in every 8 women, and we know that with those kinds of odds, it’s highly likely that one of our mothers, daughters, grand daughters, aunts, nieces or just a dear friend will be touched by this deadly disease. This year’s event was remarkably well received by the members and so many contributed to the campaign in multiple ways.”

The Hamlet Country Club is a private country club with 300 members in Delray Beach.
