Builders to take part in Habitat "blitz"

DELRAY BEACH — Local builders and other industry professionals are joining Habitat for Humanity South Palm Beach County to raise the roof on two homes in Delray Beach as part of the Habitat for Humanity “Home Builders Blitz” 2008 taking place May 31 to June 7.

Habitat SPBC is among 110 Habitat affiliates participating in building hundreds of homes in one week.

The blitz is the second Habitat project of its kind in the United States, and gives many low-income families the opportunity to own a home.  Habitat for Humanity International estimates that more than 250 homes in 34 states will be built during the blitz.

“Partnering with professional homebuilders allows Habitat affiliates to increase the number of homes they build, while builders can help their community by doing what they do best,” said Kevin Campbell, who directs Habitat’s national blitz program.y.

Locally, K. Hovnanian Homes of Boynton Beach and Current Builders of Pompano Beach have gathered subcontractors and suppliers who will provide labor and materials for the project.

“Thanks to K. Hovnanian Homes and Current Builders sponsorship of this event, two local families will realize the dream of homeownership,” said Mike Campbell, executive director of Habitat SPBC. “We are so grateful these homebuilders are working to make our community a better place.”

Other local sponsors include P&H Interiors of Coral Springs, which will donate the interior and exterior design of the two homes.
