WEST PALM BEACH — A federal grand jury has indicted Wellington businessman Glenn Straub and Palm Beach Polo Holdings Inc. on two counts of violating the Clean Water Act.
U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer announced the indictments Wednesday.
According to the indictment, Palm Beach Polo Holdings and Straub dumped pollutants, including fill, into nearby wetlands during June and July 2005 without a permit. The affected wetlands are on land that Palm Beach Polo Holdings owned at the time and include Peacock pond in Wellington. Straub sold the land six months later.
If convicted of the charges, Palm Beach Polo Holdings faces a criminal fine of $50,000 per day of violation, or $500,000, whichever is greater, on each count. Straub faces up to three years in prison for each count.
Straub is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on June 30.
