DELRAY BEACH — Stop the presses! Gas prices have dropped!
Barely. Infinitesimally. Ever so slightly. But definitely down for the first time in months.
And diesel dropped for the second week in a row.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the national average for a gallon of regular dropped to $4.079 this week from $4.082 a week ago. The average for all grades was $4.131 a gallon, down from $4.134 a gallon.
A month ago, regular averaged $3.937; the all-grades average stood at $3.986 a gallon.
In Florida, EIA reported that regular averaged $4.014, down from $4.019 a week ago. A month ago, regular cost $3.931 on average in the Sunshine State. The average for all grades: $4.079, compared with $4.085 a week ago and $3.996 a month ago.
In Palm Beach County, regular was down slightly, to an average of $4.143, from the all-time high of $4.144 set on June 15, according to AAA. The county still has the highest prices of any metro area in Florida; Fort Lauderdale came in second at $4.129 a gallon for regular.
Diesel, meanwhile, dropped to $4.648 nationally, from $4.698 a week ago and $4.723 a month ago, according to EIA.
In Palm Beach County, diesel averaged $4.852 a gallon, according to AAA. The all-time high for the county was $4.866 set June 11.
