Gas prices continue spiraling upward

DELRAY BEACH — The numbers on a gas pump spin around so fast these days, they’ve become a blur. Unfortunately, they’re only going to spin faster in the weeks ahead.
On Monday, AAA put the average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline in Palm Beach County at $3.918. By Tuesday, it had gone up a penny more.
Palm Beach County has the highest gas prices of any metro area in Florida, according to AAA.
Meanwhile, West Texas intermediate crude oil was trading as high as $129.60 a barrel Tuesday. T. Boone Pickens speculated that oil could hit $150 a barrel.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration on Monday put the average cost of a gallon of regular at $3.791, up from $3.722 a week ago and $3.508 a month ago.
The average for all grades jumped to $3.84, up from $3.771 a gallon a week ago and $3.557 a month ago.
In Florida, regular averaged $3.803 a gallon, up from $3.709 a week ago and $3.514 a month ago, EIA said. The all grades average: $3.866, up from $3.77 a week ago and $3.517 a month ago.
EIA put diesel at $4.497 a gallon, up from $4.331 last week and $4.143 a month ago.
AAA pegged diesel at $4.617 a gallon in Palm Beach County, up from $4.578 Monday. A month ago diesel averaged $4.234.
