Gas breaks $4; diesel hits $5 in areas
DELRAY BEACH — No kidding. Gasoline has broken the $4 barrier in Palm Beach County and shows no signs of slowing down.
Diesel is rapidly moving toward $5, and in some markets, California and New York, it already has surpassed that mark.
AAA put the current price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Palm Beach County at $4.037 a gallon Wednesday. The average cost of a gallon of diesel: $4.825.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Energy Information Administration says gasoline nationally has shot up 14 cents a gallon in the past week, and 30 cents in the past month.
Regular now averages $3.937 a gallon, up from $3.791 a week ago and $3.603 a month ago. The all-grades average, according to EIA, is now $3.986, up from $3.84 a week ago and $3.653 a month ago.
In Florida, regular averages $3.931 a gallon, up from $3.803 a week ago and $3.614 a month ago. The all-grades average, according to EIA, is now $3.996, up from $3.886 a week ago and $3.676 a month ago.
Diesel, according to EIA, now averages $4.723 a gallon, up from $4.497 a week ago and $4.17 a month ago.
