Delray Beach OK 'Most Fun' fireworks celebration

DELRAY BEACH — Delray Beach city commissioner gave its approval for a fireworks show to be held at the municipal beach on July 25 in celebration of the city’s “Most Fun” designation.

USA Today and Rand McNally this week designated Delray Beach as the Most Fun Small City in America. The Travel Channel will highlight the city during a special program on the 25th, and Boston’s on the Beach will host a viewing party that evening, and the show, conducted by the Delray Beach Marketing Cooperative, will be in conjunction with the party.

Coincidentally, the Florida Festivals and Events Convention will be in town at the same time.  Pyrotechnico, a national fireworks company with an office in Fort Lauderdale, will produce the show as a convention “exhibit,” meaning it won’t cost the city a dime.

“We are not going to be spending any money on this,”” the DBMC’s Sarah Martin told commissioners, who met during a special meeting Friday morning to approve the show.

The fireworks will be shot from a spot just north of the beach pavilion. All streets will remain open.

“It will just be a normal night on the beach, other than the show,” Martin said.

Said Commissioner Al Jacquet: “It’s a great opportunity to celebrate.”
