DELRAY BEACH — The caliber of play wasn't exactly Wimbleton, but it was, nonetheless, an entertaining day of tennis Saturday at the Chris Evert Raymond James Pro-Celebrity Classic in Delray Beach.
Tennis legend Chris Evert has held the tournament since 1989 as a fundraiser to combat drug abuse and child neglect in Florida. Last year's event raised $700,000; since its inception, the tournament has raised $19.1 million.
Saturday's play featured Evert, Hoda Kotb, Stone Phillips, David Cook, Patrick McEnroe, Jensen Murphy, Jon Lovitz, Jan-Michael Kimbell, Rennae Stubbs, Jill Zarin, Alan Thicke, Monica Seles, and Scott Foley.
Play resumes Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Delray Beach Tennis Center at Atlantic Avenue and NW 1st Street. Here's the schedule of play:
American Idol season 7 winner David Cook takes a minute during his match to sign autographs for a couple of young fans.
You've got to be kidding me! Patrick McEnroe imitates brother John in a mock argument with umpire Jensen Murphy. "Warning McEnroe," Murphy said. "That's tomorrow," McEnroe replied. Patrick will take on John in a doubles match Sunday afternoon.
