Housing authority designates Auburn as developer for Carver site DELRAY BEACH — The Delray Beach Housing Authority has taken a first step toward building the 50-acre, $200 million mixed-use Villages of Delray by designating the Auburn Development Group as the master developer for the 18 acres that used to be Carver Estates. Auburn will combine the 18 acres with 11 acres it already owns to form a public-private partnership with the housing authority. The project, which sits north of Linton Boulevard just east of Interstate 95, will combine affordable and work force housing with market-rate rentals and for-sale homes. With more than 400 residences designated for workforce and affordable housing, it will be Florida’s largest community of its kind. The Villages of Delray is intended to replenish Delray Beach’s affordable housing stock, which Hurricane Wilma devastated in October 2005. Carver Estate was particularly hard hit — 200 rentals were condemned as a result of hurricane damage. |
